My initial response to this article was wow!  It really makes post reading, TV shows with laugh tracks seem odd.  It really exemplifies how insecure we are as a culture.  Personally, I find it odd when watching a stand up comedy special on either Comedy Central or HBO.  I think it is odd when sitting with a group of people watching a stand up comic and just I laugh and no one else does.  I think, am I immature to think that's funny or did everyone else just not get it.  And then sometimes when everyone else laughs at something and that one person doesn't find it funny but still musters up an unnatural chuckle or two to fit in.  I laugh when I find something funny.  Some people laugh when they think they should instead of when they naturally feel they should.
